Free Programmes for Underprivileged Children
We also offer free limited activities and programmes for underprivileged, age- and ability-appropriate children.
For many years, certain staff members have worked with various groups of young people, including learning-disabled, special needs, financially limited, and others with limited opportunities to participate in guided outdoor activities. In particular, we have never been comfortable with the fact that many outdoor activities are often unavailable to those of limited means who cannot afford quality instruction by elite professional guides.
As a result, we try to offer activities, as often as we can, to individuals (and small groups) that qualify and are capable of engaging in special outdoor events, yet unable to afford the costs. We offer free avalanche safety presentations to schools, and discounted fees to organized youth groups, but we wish to also reach others.
We instruct these programmes without pay, solely on a volunteer basis. These particular activities are offered in English, for younger participants who are only financially limited and do not require ‘special-needs’ instructors. As always, we keep the participant/guide ratio very low in all of our activities, so spaces for these activities are limited and on a first come-first served basis.
If you know of a young person who is physically capable of participating in outdoor activities like basic rock climbing, hiking, snowshoeing, or Shinrin-Yoku Nature therapy hikes, you are welcome to contact us to see if they might qualify. We are happy to discuss any possibility, dates, and specific details. We recommend children be between the ages of 10 – 16, but we will discuss any child and consider possibilities.
This world is for all of us to enjoy and protect, and financial limitations should not impede anyone’s chances of enhancing their Spirit and learning from what Nature has to teach us. Especially the children who are our Future –
